So I flew home back to Dubai for Christmas and after a horrific day of jetlag I started my first ever work experience within the fashion industry. I'm working for the fashion and beauty editor at the newly launched Good housekeeping Middle East and so far I'm having a great time :) My first day consisted of tearing spreads out of old magazines for inspiration for the February 'romance' issue of the magazine followed by an afternoon 'mall trawling'. Said 'mall trawling' consists of going around all the shops in the mall picking items to feature in the fashion shoot. This done differently to in the UK, as in the UK, PR agencies tend to send sample pieces for magazines to feature, however in Dubai they don't do this... it's up to the magazines editors to go and pick which items they want to feature and then borrow them from the store for a few days. This was a great opportunity for me to give a helping hand in the styling department, something that I hadn't anticipated doing on my first day!
My second day started with a very early morning on location for the main fashion shoot, shot in a local park. My main job of the day was to ensure all the borrowed clothes were very well looked after and that no damage was done whilst dressing and undressing the model. Alongside this I was official backstage photographer, taking some snapshots of what was going on behind the scenes for the Good Housekeeping facebook page. check them out here https://www.facebook.com/GoodHousekeepingMiddleEast
After the shoot was over I was responsible for sending all the clothes and accessories back to the right shops, free from damage and lipstick stains!! During the process I checked out some of the gorgeous items we shot, in particular a gorgeous Michael Kors handbag and a stunning Marc by Marc Jacobs watch. If Santa is reading, I know what I would LOVE for Christmas...!
I've got another few weeks here interning so I'll keep you posted on any exciting developments
Toodles xxx
